Materials & Quality

What materials are used in your equipment?

Our aerial equipment is handcrafted in Spain with premium materials:

  • Straps: Velvet-covered, 40mm width, 4mm thickness —
Safe Work Load (SWL) per one, not for pair- 80 kg ≈ 176 Pounds
Breaking Strength (MBS) per one, not for pair - 800 kg ≈ 1763
    Pounds
    Safety Factor (SF) 10:1
  • Corde Lisse Trapeze: 26mm grip size, anti-slip bar —
    Safe Work Load (SWL) - 302kg ≈ 665 Pounds
    Breaking Strength (MBS) - 3024kg ≈ 6666 Pounds
    Safety Factor (SF) 10:1
  • Aerial Rope: Grip size: 32mm (1.26 inches)
    Safe Work Load (SWL) - 546kg = 1,203.72 Pounds
    Breaking Strength (MBS)- 5465kg = 11,905.0 Pounds
    Safety Factor (SF) 10:1
  • Aerial Silks: 100% made of durable polyester low-medium stretchy with wide 150 cm
Safe Work Load (SWL) 150kg ≈ 330 Pounds
    Breaking Strength (MBS) 1500kg ≈ 3300 Pounds
    Safety Factor (SF) 10:1

Where is your equipment made?

All of our products are handcrafted in Spain by our team at ALEX DESIGN, ensuring the highest quality and attention to detail.

How should I care for my aerial equipment?

To extend the life of your equipment:

  • Store in dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Avoid contact with sharp edges or abrasive surfaces
  • Inspect all hardware and stitching before each use
  • Clean velvet-covered straps gently with a soft, damp cloth
  • Do not exceed the Safe Working Load (SWL) ratings for any equipment

What's the difference between SWL and MBS?

Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) is the force at which equipment fails completely. Safe Work Load (SWL) is the much lower limit you can safely work to during normal use. MBS is always the higher number, and you should never load equipment close to it. SWL is calculated by dividing MBS by a safety factor.

How do you calculate Safe Work Load?

Divide the Minimum Breaking Strength by the Safety Factor: SWL = MBS ÷ SF. For example, equipment with a 5,000 kg breaking strength and a 10:1 safety factor has a Safe Work Load of 500 kg.

What safety factor should aerialists use?

While general rigging often uses safety factors between 4:1 and 7:1, many aerialists and riggers work to a 10:1 safety factor. The higher ratio accounts for the shock loads created by dynamic moves, drops, and sudden stops common in aerial performance.

Can you ever exceed the Safe Work Load?

No. The Safe Work Load is the maximum load you should ever apply. Exceeding it removes your safety margin and risks equipment failure, which can cause serious injury. When in doubt, choose equipment with a higher rating or consult a competent rigger.

Are SWL and WLL the same thing?

They're closely related and often used interchangeably. Working Load Limit (WLL) is set by the manufacturer and marked on the product. Safe Work Load (SWL) can also refer to a reduced limit set by a competent person based on specific conditions. Both represent the maximum safe load.
